Greater Manchester Pension Fund is one of many local authority funds up and down the country, which follow the rules of the LGPS. In fact it is the largest in the country, and membership is enjoyed by people who work for the 10 local authorities in Greater Manchester, and a whole host of other organisations such as local colleges and Citizens Advice Bureau. It can even include private contractors carrying out local authority functions in some cases.

Tameside runs the Fund and we are involved in every stage of your membership. For example we set up your pension records when you join, keep them up to date with any changes your employer tells us about, for example changes in hours, and eventually pay your benefits to you. We’re also there along the way to help with things like transfers, or topping up your benefits.
We can only do these things by working closely with your employer, and also by holding a certain amount of information about you.

The Fund doesn’t have trustees as such, but has a Management Panel and an Advisory Panel which do a very similar job.
