The Fund’s money is managed through the Pension Fund Management Panel, which meets four times a year. One of its key roles is to decide on investment strategy.
The panel is made up of Councillors mainly from Tameside, and is advised by outside investment experts, Tameside’s Chief Executive, Director of Pensions, Borough Solicitor, and the Pension Fund Advisory Panel.
The Pension Fund Advisory Panel is made up of Councillors from each of the ten local authorities in Greater Manchester, and also employee representatives from the major trade unions.

Most of the Fund’s investments are handled by three leading outside investment companies, but property, private equity, sterling cash and some local investments are handled in house. As a member your benefits are totally secure, and have a cast iron guarantee backed by law. The Fund’s assets are completely separate from your employer’s and Tameside’s, and the Scheme rules limit how the Fund’s money can be invested.
