As people are living longer and receiving their pension benefits for longer the cost of providing pensions has risen. To reflect this, the Government has introduced changes to the way the LGPS operates from 1 April 2008. The changes are designed to ensure that the LGPS continues to be viable and equality-proofed and that the Scheme remains fair and affordable for everyone.
