More about nominating a cohabiting partner to receive a pension

Terms & conditions
You can only nominate your cohabiting partner if:

* You and your partner have lived together as a couple continuously for the last two years, in the same way as a married couple or civil partners would live together

Nominating a cohabiting partner to receive a pension

* You and your partner would you be allowed to marry or form a civil partnership

* Your partner has depended on you financially, or you have depended on each other financially continuously for the last two years. We will not normally ask for proof of this, as long as you are living together.

* Neither you or your partner have been married, in a civil partnership, or living with someone else during the last two years.

So for example, you might have lived with your partner for three years, but you only got divorced a year ago. In this case, you could not nominate your partner yet.

Tips for filling in your form
* Use black ink and BLOCK CAPITALS so it is clear

* We won’t accept your form if there are any alterations or parts crossed out. If you make a mistake please download a new form.

* Make sure both you and your partner sign the form.

* And finally, check all the details through before sending your form to us!

Cancelling your nomination
If you make a new nomination choosing somebody different, this will automatically cancel your previous nomination. And either you or your nominated cohabiting partner can simply cancel the nomination outright by writing to us.

Please note
Cancelling your partners pension nomination does NOT cancel any lump sum life cover nomination you may have also made.

Occasions when your nomination will no longer be valid
Your partners pension nomination will no longer be valid if:

* Either you or your partner get married, form a civil partnership, or live with someone else, or
* The partner you have nominated dies, or
* You and your partner marry or form a civil partnership with each other. In this case they will automatically have the cover of spouse’s/civil partner’s benefits instead.

What to do next
Download the form by clicking the link below, print it off, then fill it in. Please remember both you and your partner need to sign the form.

We will treat your nomination confidentially, and it will be valid as soon as we receive it. We will add the details to your pension records (which we hold on computer) and return your original to you.
