- age protection

If you were born before 1 April 1956:
There is a special age related protection if you were born before 1 April 1956. Here¹s how it works...

As long as you retire before 1 April 2016, and pass the 85 test, your benefits will not be reduced at all. If you retire before you pass the 85 test, but would pass it before 65, then your benefits will be reduced, although we are waiting for further details from the Government.

Retiring

If you were born between 1 April 1956 and 31 March 1960:
There is a special age related protection if you were born between 1 April 1956 and 31 March 1960. Here's how it works...

* The benefits you build up before 1 April 2008 are 'protected' - in other words, they are not reduced as long as you pass the 85 test.

* And the benefits you build up from 1 April 2008 will be protected on a tapered basis - in other words they won't face the full reduction as long as you pass the 85 test. You need to retire at 60 or over and before 1 April 2020 to benefit from this tapered protection.

We are still waiting for more details from the Government, and will add them to this website as soon as we have them. All we can say at this stage is that you will face a lower reduction than members born 1 April 1960 onwards.
