Members who joined before
1 October 2006 only
To decide whether reductions apply to you, we carry out something called the 85 test. We do this by adding together the age you retire and your membership, but we ignore part years for either. If you have any part time membership, this counts at its full calendar length towards the 85 test. Working out how you are affected by the 85 test can be quite complex, but this section should help you work out your general position... |

All your benefits will be reduced if you draw them before age 65. The reductions depend on how early you draw your benefits - in other words, how long it is before you will reach 65.
Table of reductions and example
Changes from October 2006 mean you may still face some reductions in benefits, even if you pass the 85 test. But there are different levels of protection from these changes, depending on when you were born.
