GMPF works closely with your employer, who has an important role to play, and their own decisions to make. For example your employer decides if and when you can join, works out what pay to take contributions from, collects them, and passes them to us. They must also send us an accurate pay figure for you each year so we can work out your benefits for that year.
Although most aspects of the Scheme and the Scheme rules are fixed, your employer has some discretion - in other words they have a choice about some aspects, including:
- Waiving early retirement reductions on compassionate grounds
- Whether you can flexibly retire
Each employer has at least one person who is your pensions contact, for example a pensions officer, or personnel officer. They will be able to tell you more about your employer’s policies on pensions decisions, and in fact they have to publish this.
